Should I upgrade to the latest Windows or MacOS?
While you should always to your system updates, we do not recommend immediately upgrading to the latest major overhauls from the respective systems (Windows and Mac).
Major changes such as upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 or MacOS Big Sur to Monterey can break the use of software and functionality for people and it is highly recommended to hold off on those major upgrades until they become more stable and you know your work software will not have issues running on it. This is generally 3-6 months after release.

My computer won't turn on. What can I do?
- Make sure your computer is plugged in and that all of the cables are seated tightly.
- Check your surge protectors or power strips and make sure they are on and working.
- Try plugging your power cord directly into an outlet that you know works.
- If you have a laptop, make sure that the LED on the charger is lit. Sometimes this is on the plastic transformer box or on the end that attaches to the computer. If this is not lit, it could indicate an issue with the power source.
- If the LED on the charger is lit, leave it plugged into the laptop for a while to rule out a dead battery.
- If all else fails, reach out to RTT Support and let us know what you tried!

My screen is blank. What can I do? (laptop and desktop)
- For desktops or external monitors, make sure the monitors are on and that the cable that goes from the monitor to your computer is connected securely.
- Try pressing the keys on the keyboard or clicking the mouse. The computer may be in sleep or hibernate mode and doing this should wake it up.
- A good indicator that the computer is still on are lights that may be on, on the keyboard, mouse, or the computer itself.
- If you can hear that the computer is on, try pressing the power button a single time. This can also wake the computer up from sleep or hibernation mode.
- If you can hear the computer running and all of the cables are connected AND the computer won’t wake from sleep you can attempt a hard shutdown.
- Note that unsaved work will be lost during a hard shutdown.
- You may receive a message about an improper shutdown but that is okay!
- Hold the power button until the computer turns off, usually between 10 and 15 seconds.
- Then attempt to turn the computer back on by pressing the power button.
- If the screen still won't come on
- Try using a monitor that you know works or remove any docks or adapters from the equation and plug the monitor directly into the computer (if possible). Another piece of equipment could be the point of failure.
- If you have a laptop, open and close the lid. Sometimes a mechanical failure can cause this issue and can become apparent if the screen flickers while moving it.
- If, after all that, the screen still won’t come back on, please reach out to RTT support for additional troubleshooting.
- If the screen does start working again, or you have isolated a piece of equipment that is faulty, reach out to RTT Support for next steps.
- For desktops or external monitors, make sure the monitors are on and that the cable that goes from the monitor to your computer is connected securely.
